Woolloomooloo

Woolloomooloo is a beautiful harbour-side suburb known for it's beautiful bay aspect just between the City and our Potts Point properties.  It's history dates back to 1910 when it was built to assist in Australia's export boom, especially our wool. During its working life (approx 70 years) it mainly handled the export of wool, but also acted as a staging point for troop deployment during the World Wars as well as a disembarking point for new migrants arriving in Australia.

The actual wharf is heritage listed and is open to the public, as it still contains the original first electrical wool balers and conveyors that loaded the wool onto ships. It's worth a wander through and see some of the history portrayed in it's original form as well as to read the history on glass panels inside the building.

Outside the wharf is lined with a variety of Sydney's best restaurants and dining institutions.   Those which serve some of Australia's other well known iconic exports: Seafood and Steak.  Dining options vary from relaxed pubs to chic bars and fine dining.

Also you must try another famous Sydney Institution while you are here - Harry's Cafe de Wheels for the best meat pie you will ever taste.  A place where most of our famous international visitors have sunk their teeth into a "Tiger pie" (with mushy peas, mashed potato and gravy.  From Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis to Elton John and Prince Harry.

Harry's has been in the same spot for 80 years... Started by a gentleman, Harry "Tiger" Edwards, whose frustrations led him to open up Caravan Cafe as a late night snack diner at the gate of the Woolloomooloo Wharves.  Due to council restrictions it had to be on wheels so that it could be moved 12 inches a day and not deemed a permanent fixture - 80 years is pretty permanent!

Tip: Stroll through the Royal Botanic Garden and the Art Gallery then head back to the Finger Wharf for lunch on the water.  Afterwards you can visit Andrew 'Boy' Charlton Pool for a relaxing swim in the saltwater pool.
