Did you know that our Sydney Lodges is a family-owned business?  The family's 80+year-old patriarch opened one of the first European speciality Delis in the area in the 1960s with the largest selection of continental imported goods in the country?  So we do pride ourselves for knowing quite a bit about tasty cheeses, hams and olives.

We are soooo lucky! Our Potts Point neighbourhood offers the best choice of Delicatessen, speciality stores and other local corner shops in Sydney!  Don't miss our list of curated local shops or the Saturday Farmer's Markets at the El Alamein Fountain in Kings Cross. 

Why not pick up some goodies and head to any of our nearby parks, sit in the sun and enjoy the fabulous views of Sydney Harbour while enjoying a picnic packed with local tasty morsels.    


One of the newest deli's on the block.  Small's is a wonderful treat if you're looking for something sweet or savoury to fill in the gaps between breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Just around the corner from Springfield in Victoria Street.  Every day, locals queue for baguettes, paninis and sourdough sandwiches, made to order and packed with fresh ingredients, including house-made pickles, free-range salami and slowly ripened cheeses.  Jars of house-made jams, syrups and preserves line the shelves; garlic hangs from the celing; and a suspended fridge displays meats and cheeses, ready for slicing.

Don't miss the small and cute cheese shop run by Penny Lawson who opened in 2018. It is THE place to go for all sorts of cheese discoveries. As well as being a passionate 'Fromage' expert, she also makes the most awesome toasties with a selection of 7 or 8 different kinds of cheese that vary every week and beautiful locally sourced sourdough bread.  Penny's is very close to Bayswater and Springfield

Gourmet Life is more of a Specialised Providore and not your everyday deli.   It's a showroom for fine imported perishables – aka fancy, delicious things you from all over the world.  Truffles and caviar are specialties,  Sample some outstanding Italian hazelnuts from Piedmont or Sicilian pistachios and herb-dusted almonds.  All marinated vegetables from baby artichokes to Calabrian peppers, two long shelves of tinned fish, and a huge selection of regional charcuterie from around the world.  The Cheese is mainly French along with the foie gras and fresh, wild chanterelle mushrooms that are a must on a picnic.

On Saturdays, you can head in for fresh pasta making demos, which you can buy to take home, including truffle pasta in season. They follow truffle season around the world – June-August is the local season, but then import white Italian truffles for September to November and French black truffles for the remainder of the year.

We love the authenticity of Marcus Papadopoulo's old school butchery. Everything is stored and dry-aged whole, a process that enhances the flavour and tenderness of his carefully selected and grass-fed meats. Marcus is an absolute expert in his field and carves on-site to the weight and specifications his clients want. There are also rillettes, pâtés, jars of pickles and chilli jam, all of which are made on the premises.

Have a look at these hidden spots that only we, the locals know and love to relax and explore for a bit of downtime.  

Elizabeth Bay, wander down the very local path between the buildings opposite Challis Ave corner on Macleay St, just up from the Potts Point Bookshop; you'll see a sign to Billyard Ave follow this down to Elizabeth Bay Marina or tucked away at the bottom right on the Harbour is Beare Park - a locals favourite on "Lizzie Bay".

Rushcutters Bay, the next Bay around from Lizzie Bay, further on down Holdsworth Ave or just head down Bayswater Road if you're staying at our  Bayswater to the very end and walk along New South Head Road towards Edgecliff and you'll be amazed by the amount of yachts masts bobbing in Rushcutter's Bay and a beautiful park to picnic.  

Embarkation Park, located right at the end of Challis Ave, at the corner of Victoria Street.  A fabulous place to go for Sydney Harbour glimpses and grassy slopes to sit and picnic on.  

All these beautiful parks are closeby to our Potts Point properties.
