Spotlight on the Coastal Walk
There are a handful of incredible coastal hikes across the globe and the Coogee to Bondi Coastal Walk is definitely among them. Following the coast cliffs and beaches for six kilometres, you can set off – just you and your backpack. Prepare to see some of the most jaw-dropping vistas Sydney has to offer! Think sweeping panoramas, beautiful beaches, craggy cliffs, secluded bays, boutique shopping, great eating and drinking spots, cuppa-sipping cafes, beautiful parks and even some rock pools.
With seven stunning beaches that make up the coastal walk, it helps to plan ahead. Most of the beaches have sheltered areas for picnics, children’s playgrounds, kiosks, toilets and change rooms for the sandy struggle into your swimmers.
For those who want to reward themselves with a tasty Sunday morning sausage sizzle and give back to the Community then stop off at any of the local Surf Clubs. You’ll see the 1000’s of Nippers (Surf Life Saving for Kids) and smell the barbie (barbecue) from a mile – follow your nose and dive into a sausage in a roll with (or without) onions.
You could always plan your own ‘barbie’ with free electric barbecues at Tamarama, Bronte, Coogee and Maroubra locations along the Coogee to Bondi Coastal Walk.
Timing and Terrain
The coastal walk is considered medium-grade, and you can expect to encounter some steep gradients and staircases along the way. If you like to sit and ponder, there are some beautiful places to rest, take postcard pictures and many Instagrammable spots.
What to Take With You
Although classified as an urban walk, The Coogee to Bondi Coastal Walk is front-facing to all kinds of weather. If you’re not familiar with the Australian climate, namely the Australian sun – do as the locals do, and:
SLIP (on a shirt)
SLOP (on some sunscreen)
SLAP (on a hat)
WRAP (on the sunnies)
Save your feet! Wear comfy shoes and bring along plenty of water to fuel you while you’re in full sun. Lastly, ALWAYS swim between the flags at Aussie beaches.
