Sydney New Years Eve

Venue: Sydney Harbour & Coogee Beach

Thinking of coming to Sydney this New Year’s Eve? People from all around the world flock to Sydney to celebrate the new year in this magical city, so make sure you plan early!
Here’s our brief guide to help you get a head start on planning.
Event Program:
- 8.30 pm Pylon projections and lighting effects
- 9 pm Welcome to Country fireworks
- Midnight Fireworks display
Tips for watching the fireworks:
Perhaps the best piece of advice here is to watch the fireworks on the side of the bridge you are staying on. Crossing the bridge on New Year’s Eve can be incredibly difficult, and unless you want to waste your night on public transport, try not to venture too far from your accommodation.
Sydney City:
A great viewpoint for the fireworks display is Embarkation Park on Victoria Street. The views of the Harbour Bridge are a little limited as the park has many trees so arrive early. It is a very popular site for local families that usually start setting up at 7 pm when the park opens. The site reaches capacity prior to 9 pm. Alcohol is prohibited on site so don’t BYO but bring a picnic blanket and some food to celebrate.
Sydney’s Royal Botanic Gardens is the most prestigious vantage point. This harbourside location has several party options, each with a unique flair. Tickets sell out early, so make sure you check out their official website here for availability.
Other iconic locations are the Sydney Opera House, the Taronga Zoo, Pirrama Park, or on the water, aboard a city ferry or a cruise vessel. Tickets can range between $250-$500 for cruises and usually include food and drinks, some with entertainment. While this is an amazing experience, make sure you find a vessel that suits your food and music tastes.
You can view the map of places to watch the fireworks HERE or even live-stream it from your comfortable Sydney Lodges guest room HERE!
There’s also a range of ticketed concerts and parties around Sydney to celebrate the New Year. Visit What’s On for more NYE events as they are updated and check out the official SydNYE website for updates.
Randwick:
Our properties in Randwick make it easy to get into the city or to enjoy the short fireworks display planned to occur at the famous Coogee Beach, at the family-friendly time of 9 pm (note there are no midnight fireworks). Families, local community and visitors gather along the coast at Coogee Beach to watch this fabulous 15-20 minute fireworks display. Coogee Beach and beachside parks are alcohol-free. The best vantage points to view the Coogee fireworks are:
- Goldstein Reserve, Coogee: located right next to the beach
- Coogee Beach on the sand
- Grant Reserve & Trenerry Reserve
- Clovelly Beach Car Park
- Burrows Park Headland
- Local restaurants many local establishments host excellent New Year’s Eve events within sight of the fireworks

Accommodation:
Our final piece of advice is to stay near the event you’re attending, as travelling after the fireworks or during can be tough work due to the crowds. From our Randwick properties, head to the city by tram or walk down to Coogee Beach (it is an easy 17-minute walk down the hill).
This is one of our busiest times of the year so even if you don’t have all your plans sorted, book your accommodation early so you don’t miss out!
